Barbara Beznos

Barbara Beznos, RD, LD/N, is a Registered Dietitian (under the authority of the American Dietetic Association (ADA)), and is also a Licensed Nutritionist in Florida. She is the founder and owner of Integrated Nutrition, LLC, located in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Barbara received her Bachelor's Degree of Arts in Education from Michigan State University at East Lansing, Michigan, and completed her additional comprehensive course work in nutrition and dietetics at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.

Barbara performed her dietetic internship at Henry Ford Health Systems in Detroit. She has been a Registered Dietitian and a Licensed Nutritionist (FL) since 1998.

Considered by many to be a pioneer and leader in the field of private nutritional practice in the Detroit Metropolitan area, in the past, Barbara has been featured at WJR.com and on the (now dormant) iCan.com web site as a regular contributing author on nutrition. She is often in demand as a guest lecturer. Currently, you can find her Nutritionally Speaking in the weekly print version of the Detroit Jewish News.

Above all else (and well-known to her family, friends and clients), Barbara has a true passion for nutrition and helping others live better, healthier lives.

Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are fatty acids that are required in the diet for good health. EFAs cannot be synthesized by the body and must be obtained through dietary intake. EFAs were originally called, “Vitamin F,” until it was realized they were best classified with fats (lipids).

EFAs are believed to play an important role in optimum cell functioning, childhood neural development, regulating heart rate, blood pressure, clotting, fertility, inflammation and fighting infection. Hence, the not-surprising name, essential fatty acids.

There are two types of EFAs: Omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid) and Omega-6 (linoleic acid). Omega-3 deficiency and a ratio imbalance (too much Omega-6) are often linked to serious health conditions.

Good sources of Omega-3 are: cold-water fish, flaxseed (linseed) oil, pumpkin seeds, soya beans, leafy green vegetables and walnuts.
